Ramezic: ‘Cooperation with Ryanair gives us greater Negotiating Power with other Companies’

Sarajevo International Airport today officially expanded its cooperation with Ryanair by introducing new airlines, and on this occasion, airport director Sanin Ramezić spoke to Klix.ba about how cooperation with Ryanair can contribute to the further development of the airport.

Speaking about the development of cooperation with Ryanair, Ramezić said that this is the company that has transported the largest number of passengers in Europe, which speaks volumes about their importance.

“The airport can only use this cooperation in a segment that is important for all of us and the citizens. We have a very positive effect from this cooperation. This requires that we organize ourselves better, we need to prepare our staff, because servicing aircraft according to Ryanair standards is really high. In that segment, cooperation with them is always a level higher that Sarajevo Airport could exploit,” said Ramezić.

Ramezić also addressed the story of the opening of Ryanair’s base in Sarajevo.

“Ryanair has made it clear that they are ready to build a base here. The existence of a base at Sarajevo airport would be crucial. Having crew and planes that would spend the night at the airport shows that our doors to the world are twice as big as they are now. What they have indicated is that it is necessary for our administrative base to be better, primarily for taxes to be abolished. This is a prerequisite for them to plan something more in Sarajevo,” he said.

Although the new airlines will also include flights to Düsseldorf, Remezić also spoke about whether other flights are possible, primarily to cities in Germany such as Berlin.

“In this period, as we have become an attractive location, we have good cooperation with Eurowings and other companies. The opening of the line to Düsseldorf is certainly in the direction of satisfying these needs. Cooperation with Ryanair gives us stronger negotiating power with other companies. We believe that in this segment we will strengthen the role of the airport and that we will have more successful negotiations with other companies that have flights to Germany,” he said.

At the end of the conversation, Ramezić spoke about the goals for 2025.

“The airport met the highest number of passengers in 2024. The airport’s capacities are such that this is possible. The focus in 2025 will be to justify the investments, to serve as many lines as possible with quality. Sarajevo Airport is considered one of the airports with the best quality of airline service because we are focused on a high level of service. The focus is also on infrastructure development. The capacity of two million has already been filled and we must prepare for the future. The positive thing is that the airport as a company can create a lot of jobs and I think that is really affirmative. We would need significant support from the entire environment in this regard,” concluded Sanin Ramezić, director of Sarajevo International Airport, for Klix.ba.
