A heartfelt handwritten note accompanying a food order recently touched a customer’s heart, making her feel special despite missing out on Holi celebrations with her family. However, what seemed like a thoughtful gesture soon lost its charm as the internet pointed out that such notes are a common marketing strategy brands use to engage customers and boost ratings.
Taking to Reddit, a user shared a picture of a Rice Bowl she ordered on the occasion of Holi along with a handwritten note that she received with the food. Sharing the snap, she wrote, “Today on the day of the Holi festival I was alone in my room. This has never happened I always played Holi every year with my friends in my hometown but after coming to university I can’t play Holi anymore.”
Adding to this, the woman shared how the heartfelt message from the restaurant made her pause and reflect on her own life and accomplishments. The note, seemingly written by a chef named ‘Nisha,’ included a request for a five-star rating and a personal story. It mentioned that Nisha was a college student working at the restaurant to support “his” family.
It left a positive impact on the woman as she continued, “I felt like here I am just wasting my time alone on Holi and there is someone who is still working on a festival day and also studying in college. I felt very happy and proud reading this note.”
However, not everyone felt the same as the woman. Soon after she dropped the post on Reddit, some of them appreciated the note from the chef, while the majority of them weren’t convinced, calling it a marketing strategy.
A user commented, “Bruh, you’re so Naive! This is a mass-printed note by Rebel Foods! The same Nisha would be the Chef for Faasos, Good Bowl, Wendy’s and Behrouz Biryani. It is their marketing strategy to get better ratings.” Another one wrote, “Nice coercive marketing tactic from Eatsure. Food is probably made by some Chandu or Pappu in a cloud kitchen.:
Some users called out the grammatical errors in the note for mentioning Nisha as ‘his’. A comment read, “So Nisha is him or her?” Another one reads, “Whoever has written this note, needs to learn grammar first.” A person wrote, “Is Nisha a girl or a boy? The note says that Nisha is trying to support “his” family?”
The post has received 4,800 likes since it was shared online. Have you ever received these types of handwritten notes with your order?
