Garden River First Nation administers a variety of programs and services. Various department managers oversee their individual programs and overall administrative duties are overseen by a Chief Administrative Officer who is directly responsible to the Council who in turn, are responsible to the membership.

What you will do:
The Finance Manager is responsible for establishing, controlling and maintaining an effective financial management system and for developing policies and procedures to ensure the achievement of the Garden River First Nation (GRFN) objectives and requirements for financial control
• Oversee the implementation and optimization of accounting systems and financial software
• Participate in financial planning and budgeting meetings with the leadership team
• Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts and monitor financial performance against targets.
• Establishment of financial policies, directives, guidelines and procedures to meet GRFN requirement for financial control and accountability
• Ensure that the company’s financial practices adhere to all applicable laws and regulations, including tax codes, reporting requirements, and industry standards.
• Provide support during internal and external audits, ensuring all financial records are accurate and up-to-date.
• Preparing individual programs and overall operations budgets in collaboration with CAO and Program Managers
• Assis in the preparation of financial Band Council Resolutions
• Provide advice and guidance on the GRFN financial management system, procedures and principles to CAO
• Act as liaison with staff and external departmental agencies in relation to financial matters
• Administer day to day business of the Finance and Administration program and staff
• Partner with other department heads to align financial management with the overall business strategy. Provide insights and support for strategic initiatives.

What you can bring to the role:
• Post secondary degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Commerce, Business Administration in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
• Three (3) years related job experience in accounting, financial management in organization of similar size
• Proven experience in financial reporting and budgeting
• Knowledge, understanding and experience of First Nation culture, values, and traditions
