Boosting Commercial Relations: ProChile and Business Sweden Sign Cooperation Agreement
Both institutions signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) aimed at further enhancing the commercial relationship between Chile and Sweden.
During President Gabriel Boric’s tour of Europe, the two institutions sealed a cooperation agreement to strengthen economic relations between Chile and Sweden.
The primary objective is to connect Chilean and Swedish companies, facilitate their internationalization, and promote joint projects in areas such as trade, innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.
To carry out this agreement, various initiatives are described, such as strengthening the internationalization and diversification of export products and services from both countries; contributing to projects that improve and diversify the export offerings of Chile and Sweden by:

- – Identifying commercial and sectoral opportunities in both markets
- – Cooperating in events, seminars, workshops, and visits to trade fairs in Sweden and Chile
- – Promoting activities related to sustainability and clean technologies, such as sustainable supply chains
- – Joint use of facilities for the development of specific projects
- – Identifying projects, alliances, or mutual assistance that benefit Chilean and Swedish companies, and promoting technological innovation projects between Chilean and Swedish companies, preferably in priority sectors.
“Strengthening the relationship between Chile and Sweden is important for several reasons. Swedish companies have a great interest in several important sectors in Chile, such as mining, transport, and others. Additionally, there is significant interest from Chile towards Sweden, its companies, and solutions, due to their great appeal,” says Jesper Bernhardsson, Commercial Director of Business Sweden for Chile.
“As a government institution that works closely with the private sector to promote Chilean exports internationally, we are very pleased to strengthen our cooperation with Business Sweden, which we consider an ally in growing trade between our countries,” stated Natalia Arcos, International Director of ProChile.
The authority added, “We see Sweden as a global hub and a model of high-quality innovation, and Europe is a key market for innovative Chilean companies. The Chilean innovation sector has much to offer internationally, and we are very pleased that last year Chilean service exports reached a record level of over $2 billion, after an increase of more than 55% since 2022.”

It is noteworthy that this signing took place during the business seminar “Path to a Sustainable and Innovative Collaboration Chile – Sweden,” which was inaugurated by Rosario Navarro, President of SOFOFA, and featured two discussion panels. The first panel on innovation, moderated by Jesper Bernhardsson, Trade Attaché in Chile for Business Sweden, included participants: Felipe Gallardo, CEO of Southern Lights; José Miguel Benavente, Executive Vice President of Corfo; Paulina Assman, CEO of SeQure Quantum; and Niclas Carlsson, Head of International Business at the Swedish Energy Agency.
The second panel addressed sustainable solutions for the green transition and was moderated by Ambassador Cecilia Eckholm from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with participants Ana Lía Rojas, Executive Director of Acera; Juan José Gana, President of H2V Magallanes AG; Edward Murray, CEO of Green Iron; and Marie Trogstam, Head of Sustainability and Industries at the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise.
Chile-Sweden Trade Relations
Trade between Chile and Sweden has experienced sustained growth in recent years. Figures indicate that in 2023, total trade amounted to around $676 million, reflecting the strength of the commercial relationship between the two countries and creating a solid foundation for future collaborations.
In 2023, Chile exported $46 million to Sweden, with the main exports being services ($8.4 million), molybdenum oxides ($6.7 million), blended bottled wines ($5.8 million), dried plums ($4 million), and fresh apples ($2.9 million).
Today, collaboration in areas such as technology, innovation, and sustainability can further strengthen the economic ties between the two nations.
