T map Mobility Co., Ltd. announced on the 15th that key executives from SK Group and Mercedes-Benz Group AG met at SKT Tower in Eulji-ro, Seoul, to discuss a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of future mobility.

The talks were attended by Jörg Burzer, member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in charge of Development & Procurement, as well as Mercedes-Benz Korea CEO Mathias Vaitl and other core executives from purchasing, R&D, and semiconductor divisions.

From SK Group, participants included SK Square Co., Ltd. Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Song Jae-seung, T map Mobility Co., Ltd. CEO Lee Jaehwan, and senior executives from key affiliates such as SK hynix and SK On.

Both sides discussed ways to expand cooperation across the mobility sector by combining SK Group’s core business capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI), mobility, batteries, semiconductors, and energy with Mercedes-Benz’s vehicle and software technologies.

With the transition to Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV) emerging as a key topic in the mobility market, T map Mobility Co., Ltd. and Mercedes-Benz agreed to strengthen collaboration based on AI technologies and mobility assets.

Through this partnership, the two companies will jointly advance their SDV strategies by integrating vehicles, maps, AI, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

Mercedes-Benz plans to accelerate its AI-centric SDV strategy, while T map Mobility Co., Ltd. aims to enhance its competitiveness in AI-based mobility services by leveraging its vast trove of mobility and traffic data accumulated over more than 20 years, together with its AI technologies.

Since beginning to provide real-time traffic information for Mercedes-Benz vehicles in 2021, T map Mobility Co., Ltd. has steadily expanded the scope of collaboration to advance in-car digital services, most recently by integrating its in-vehicle navigation service TMAP AUTO into the third-generation Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system in 2024.

Since October last year, the company has also been expanding software upgrades for previously sold vehicles, including the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Following the introduction of TMAP AUTO, the usage rate of the factory-installed navigation system among Mercedes-Benz Korea customers has risen significantly, demonstrating T map Mobility Co., Ltd.’s competitiveness and user trust in the Korean market.

T map Mobility Co., Ltd. CEO Lee Jaehwan said, “Through our discussions on a strategic partnership with Mercedes-Benz, we were able to identify various avenues of cooperation to build the future mobility ecosystem, leveraging SK Group’s strengths in AI, mobility, semiconductors, and batteries,” adding, “Based on the data and AI we have accumulated at the forefront of consumer touchpoints, T map Mobility Co., Ltd. will play a key role, together with Mercedes-Benz, in driving global mobility innovation, including SDVs.”
